Contamination Probe

Download Datasheet

The LB 1343 scintillator probe for α, β, γ and X-ray radiation has a 345 cm² surface area. The contamination detector uses a single scintillator made of zinc sulphide (ZnS) to measure radioactivity. The resulting flashes of light are conducted by a suitable reflector to a photomultiplier with a suitable preamplifier and discriminator stage and measured.

Results can be displayed either as a count rate (cps) or as area activities (Bq/cm²). A metal grid protects the entrance window of the detector against damage.

Description

The LB 1343 scintillator probe for α, β, γ and X-ray radiation is designed with a 345 cm² surface area. The contamination probe has a window foil that is sensitive to mechanical damage, and it is therefore protected by a protective grid. However, everything should be done to avoid the destruction of the window foil such as sharp objects, measurement on rough surfaces, rose bushes, and cat’s paw retractors.

Nevertheless, a damaged LB 1343 detector window foil can easily be replaced by the user. Berthold supplies a foil stretched over a frame as a spare part.

The measuring results are presented on the easy to operate battery Universal Monitor (UMo II) LB 134 with display, data storage and printer output.

Features

  • High measuring accuracy
  • A precise distinction of radiation types
  • High sensitivity even at low energies
  • Low costs for the scintillator
  • Ease of maintenance
  • Unique simultaneous and separate measurement of α and β-y radiation
  • The individual types of radiation can be distinguished by means of special evaluation and correlation circuits, and thus separated and measured at the same time.
  • No counting gas required
  • It is protected by a protective grid
  • Background: alpha channel approx. 0.1cps, beta channel approx. 15cps
